Chapter 48 - The Unraveling

By midday, the rain had cleared, leaving behind a sharp, cold winter sun that illuminated the skyline of Boston.
The lobby of Harrington Tower was packed with media crews, corporate analysts, and heavily armed federal authorities. Marcus Harrington’s hidden legacy was being systematically exposed to the world, but not in the way Victoria Vance had envisioned.
I stood on the executive terrace forty floors above the city, watching the harbor where generations of greed and betrayal had played out. Emily walked out through the glass doors, carrying Leo bundled in a thick blue coat.
"The federal judge signed the dismissal twenty minutes ago," she said, leaning into my shoulder. "All offshore freezes on Harrington assets have been permanently lifted. The Vance covenant is officially dead."
"And Victoria?" I asked, wrapping my arm around her waist.
"She's being transferred to a federal detention center in Rhode Island," Emily replied softly. "No bail. The charges against her include international wire fraud, attempted kidnapping, and domestic terrorism. She won't see the outside of a maximum-security prison for the rest of her life."
I looked down at Leo, who was staring up at the clouds with wide, innocent blue eyes. He had no idea of the dark web of blood, debt, and hatred that had swirled around him before he could even speak his first words. To him, the world was safe. And I was going to ensure it stayed that way.
The elevator chimes sounded from the interior office. Carter emerged onto the terrace, holding a secure tablet.
"Brian, Jason's federal transport just arrived at the district court downstairs," Carter said quietly. "His public defender reached out. Jason is begging for two minutes with you before he's processed for his plea bargain."

I took a deep breath, looking at Emily. She nodded gently, leaving the decision entirely to me.
"Bring him up," I said.
