Chapter 37 - The Woman Behind the ContractInvestigators finally established that North Quay Advisory had routed part of the diverted Havenbridge money through an entity connected to Vale Urban's historic property transactions.

The financial trail did not automatically invalidate every contract.

But it raised serious questions about Celeste's knowledge and whether she had knowingly benefited from improperly diverted funds.

The discovery changed the negotiations.

Marcus and Tessa reviewed the evidence separately with their clients.

The independent Havenbridge administrator began examining potential recovery claims.

Celeste's lenders demanded explanations.

Her company's public statement insisted that every transaction had been conducted lawfully.

Then Nadia found the email.

It was buried inside a restored corporate archive.

The message had been sent eleven years earlier.

Celeste's financial director had warned that one proposed payment appeared to come from a charitable account.

Celeste's reply contained a single sentence.

If the source creates an exposure issue, restructure the payment before closing.

Kalista stared at the screen.

It was not proof of every allegation.

But it made Celeste's insistence that she knew nothing considerably harder to accept.

Marcus looked grim.

"This belongs with the investigators."

"And the independent fund administrator."

"Yes."

Kalista took a slow breath.

"I want this handled properly. No strategic leaks. No selective documents."

Marcus smiled faintly.

"You've learned something from the wedding footage."

"I've learned that half a truth can do as much damage as a lie."

That evening, Celeste called again.

Her voice had lost its polished confidence.

"You think you've won?"

"No."

"Then why are you smiling?"

Kalista looked at the documents on her desk.

"Because people who were ignored for eleven years are finally being heard."

Celeste exhaled sharply.

"You'll regret crossing me."

Kalista's expression remained calm.

"I've already lived through one wealthy family that believed consequences were for other people."

May you like

She paused.

"I don't intend to be impressed by another."
