Chapter 21 - The Letter Behind the Yellow DoorThree weeks after the Havenbridge fundraiser, Lenora received a letter that would change everything.

It arrived on a quiet Saturday morning.
The sun was shining over her coastal garden, and the yellow front door of her little house stood open to welcome the breeze.
For the first time in thirty years, Lenora had learned to enjoy mornings without listening for angry footsteps.
Then she opened the envelope.
Inside was a photograph of a modest apartment building surrounded by construction fencing.
Beneath it was a handwritten message.
They promised us a home. Now they're taking it away again.
Lenora recognized the name at the bottom.
Margaret Ellis.
The elderly woman whose housing assistance had finally been restored through the Havenbridge initiative.
Lenora immediately called Kalista.
"Something's wrong."
Kalista was preparing for a meeting with her investment team when the call came.
"What happened?"
"Margaret received a redevelopment notice. Her building is scheduled to be sold."
"To whom?"
Lenora hesitated.
"The paperwork mentions North Quay."
Kalista stopped moving.
North Quay Advisory.
The same consulting company that had received suspicious transfers from the old Havenbridge Housing Fund.
The same company connected to the financial approvals that had helped bring Sterling's empire down.
"Send me everything," Kalista said.
"Do you think Sterling is involved?"
"He's in prison, Lenora. But he wasn't the only person who benefited from those transfers."
There was a long silence.
Then Lenora asked a question that chilled Kalista more than any threat Sterling had ever made.
"What if we only uncovered the part of his operation he was willing to lose?"
That evening, Kalista opened the documents Margaret had received.
The redevelopment notice was legitimate.
The buyer was a company called Vale Urban Partners.
And attached to the transaction was a financing agreement signed eleven years earlier.
Kalista recognized the signature.
It belonged to Sterling.
But another name appeared beneath it.
Celeste Vale.
For the first time in months, Kalista felt the familiar sensation of approaching danger.
