Chapter 40 - The Celebration of HonestyOne year after Amber’s return—and exactly four years since the catastrophic birthday party—Thomas and Amber hosted another celebration.

This time, there were no custom silk dresses, no corporate directors with hidden motives, and no champagne flutes held in nervous anxiety. Instead, the backyard was filled with wooden picnic tables, fairy lights strung between the trees, and the sound of children laughing.
Daniel Mercer was there, playing a game of catch with Noah. Evelyn Shaw sat by the flowerbeds, chatting happily with neighbors who knew Thomas and Amber not as high-society elites, but as a grounded, resilient family.
Noah, now nine years old, stood proudly beside the wooden bench near the butterfly memorial plaque. He had pinned a small, framed drawing he had made at school to the front of the bench.
It showed three butterflies soaring high into a bright blue sky above a flourishing garden.
Thomas and Amber walked out together, holding hands, watching their son explain the biology of metamorphosis to anyone who would listen.
"Do you think he'll ever forget that night?" Amber asked softly, leaning her head against Thomas's shoulder.
May you like
"I don't think he'll forget," Thomas replied, kissing her temple. "But he won't remember it with fear. He'll remember that when everything fell apart, his family had the courage to tell the truth."
Amber smiled, tightening her grip on his hand as the afternoon sun cast a warm, golden glow across the polished oak of the garden fence. The storm had passed, the lies had burned away, and what remained was an unbreakable bond forged in honesty and love.
