Chapter 34 - Thomas’s Arrival"Viktor! Drop it!"
Thomas stood in the doorway, panting heavily, holding a heavy iron fireplace poker he had grabbed from his own car when he saw the dark windows of Amber’s building. He had sensed something was wrong the moment his phone calls to Amber went straight to voicemail.
Viktor spun around, surprised by the sudden interruption. For a split second, his attention wavered between Amber and Thomas. That fraction of a second was all Amber needed.
With a primal scream of rage and desperation, Amber lunged forward, smashing her heavy metal keychain directly into Viktor’s wrist. The pistol flew from his grasp, clattering across the hardwood floor into the shadows.

Viktor cursed, grabbing Amber by the arm and shoving her violently against the kitchen island. She gasped as the edge struck her hip, sending a sharp wave of pain through her body.
Thomas didn't hesitate. He closed the distance across the room with terrifying speed, bringing the iron poker down in a crushing arc that caught Viktor square across the shoulder, sending the younger Vance crashing to the floor.
