Chapter 36 - Healing the WoundsTwo days after Viktor’s arrest, Thomas and Amber sat together on the wooden bench in the backyard butterfly garden. Noah was inside finishing his homework, safely insulated from the dangerous world of corporate espionage.

Amber had a small bruise on her arm from the struggle, but her eyes were clearer than they had been in years.

"Daniel called this morning," Amber said softly, staring down at her hands. "Viktor's network has been completely dismantled. The assets are being seized, and the real estate project in our neighborhood has been canceled by federal regulators."

Thomas looked at her, his expression softening. He reached out, gently covering her hand with his own. "It's really over, isn't it?"

"It's over," Amber whispered, a tear slipping down her cheek, but this time, it was a tear of profound release. She turned to face him, her voice trembling slightly. "Thomas... when Viktor broke into my apartment, all I could think about wasn't the danger, or the files, or even myself. I thought about Noah. And I thought about you. I realized that for the first time in my life, I wasn't running from the truth anymore."

Thomas looked deeply into her eyes, seeing the years of guilt, fear, and redemption etched into her features. The illusion of perfection was long dead, replaced by something far more resilient: real, hard-earned honesty.
