Chapter 96 - The Bloodline Ledger Unbound

Before we could ascend, we needed the undeniable proof. The titanium cylinder was still locked, protected by a dual-authentication mechanism that required both a genetic sample and an algorithmic passkey.

I set the cylinder beside the handbag on the stone sarcophagus.

"The passkey was hidden in your bride's wedding vows," Clara said quietly. "The phrase she made you recite before the altar—the Latin passage from the Book of Kings."

My mind raced back through the fog of memory, back to that gilded church where a woman who meant to destroy me had looked into my eyes and smiled.

*"Non derelinquet Dominus semen iustorum,"* I whispered aloud. *The Lord will not forsake the seed of the righteous.*

I dialed the Latin letters into the rotating rings of the cylinder's mechanical collar. The internal tumblers clicked, aligning with a dull mechanical hum. A tiny biometric probe extended from the tip of the metal tube.

"Julian," Clara said softly, holding my infant daughter up toward the light of the sconce. "It needs her bloodline. Just a single drop from her heel."

My hands shook as I took my daughter's tiny foot. She blinked her wide, dark eyes at me, completely unaware that an entire continent's financial architecture hung upon her breath. With a sterilized lancet from Evelyn's medical kit, I pricked her heel and pressed the droplet of crimson blood against the cylinder's biometric sensor.

For three agonizing seconds, nothing happened. The stone crypt was utterly silent except for Evelyn's ragged breathing and the distant tolling of the first abbey bell. Six-fifteen in the morning.

Then, a clear chime echoed from the device.

The titanium cylinder blossomed open like an iron lily. Inside lay an ultra-dense sovereign micro-ledger and a roll of translucent vellum inscribed with the original, unbroken treaties of the Vane Estate. Across the header, verified by holographic sovereign seals, was the undeniable truth:

My late wife had never been the legal beneficiary. The entire estate had been entailed strictly to the biological child born of our union. Moreover, the ledger contained financial evidence exposing Duchess Margaret Arnault’s embezzlement of fourteen billion dollars from European pension syndicates—a theft they had planned to pin entirely on me after framing me for treason.

"Julian," Evelyn breathed, her eyes widening as she read the glowing lines of code. "They didn't just want to exile your daughter. If this ledger is revealed, the Arnault empire faces immediate total asset liquidation."

Suddenly, the heavy iron door at the far end of the crypt groaned. Heavy footsteps echoed down the stone stairway.
