Chapter 49 - The Dawn of Vindication

Six hours later, the morning sun rose over the port of Bastia, casting golden ribbons of light across the tranquil turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.

The French Riviera was waking up from its nightmare. In Monte Carlo, the power was fully restored; news feeds around the world were dominated by one single, astonishing headline:

**"VANCE GLOBAL MASTERMIND EXPOSED: ELEANOR VANCE ARRESTED IN CORSICAN BUNKER AS MULTI-TRILLION-DOLLAR TREASON SCHEME COLLAPSES."**

Footage was already playing on loop across every major international network: Eleanor Vance, cuffed in heavy iron chains, flanked by French counter-terrorism operatives, being marched down the tarmac of a military airfield under armed escort. She looked ancient, decrepit, stripped of the glamour and terror she had commanded for half a century.

In a private suite overlooking the harbor at the Hotel Grand Bastia, Astrid was finally resting, her breathing peaceful under medical supervision.

Henry sat on the terrace, a thick woolen blanket over his shoulders, watching the fishing boats drift out to sea. For the first time in twelve years, he didn't look over his shoulder. The phantom chains had been broken.

Christian walked out onto the balcony, holding two cups of steaming black espresso. He handed one to me and leaned against the wrought-iron railing, watching the morning light catch the golden highlights in my hair.

"The Pentagon issued a formal retraction thirty minutes ago," Christian said quietly. "Your name is cleared, Claire. In fact, the SEC and the French Ministry of Finance have frozen the entire domestic board of Vance Global. Julian’s remaining loyalists on Wall Street are currently being arrested in their penthouses."

"And the board?" I asked, taking a sip of the bitter coffee.

"There is no board left," Christian smiled faintly. "With Eleanor in custody and Julian eliminated, eighty-four percent of the voting shares have automatically reverted to the original founding charter. Which means, Claire... you are the sole, undisputed Chairman and CEO of Vance Global."

I looked out over the endless blue expanse of the sea.

Six months ago, I was sitting on a private jet, watching Julian pour vintage champagne for his secretary while they laughed at my silence. I remembered the cold, arrogant sneer on Julian's face when he told me to remember my place. I remembered the humiliation of being cast out of my own home, stripped of my credit cards, treated like a pathetic ghost.

They had tried to bury me. They had forgotten that I was the seed that grew the entire forest.

"I don't want Vance Global," I said softly.

Christian turned to look at me, surprised. "You’re walking away from a ninety-billion-dollar empire?"

"I’m not walking away," I said, meeting his gaze with unyielding clarity. "I’m dismantling it. I’m liquidating every defense contract, every corrupt offshore shell company, and returning the stolen capital to the pension funds Julian and Eleanor robbed. Vance Global dies today. Tomorrow, something clean takes its place."

Henry turned from his chair, tears shimmering in his weathered eyes. "Your mother would hate that more than prison, Claire."

May you like

"Good," I replied with a faint, satisfied smile. "That’s why I’m doing it."
