Chapter 20 - The New Foundation

One month later, the Vance estate lawn had fully recovered, blanketed under a crisp, golden afternoon in late autumn.
The terrace was alive with warmth. White linen tables were set with tea, pastries, and fresh orchard cider. Noah was running across the lawn with a golden retriever puppy—Ethan’s recent gift—his cheerful laughter echoing across the grounds.
Beside the newly renovated conservatory, Ethan and Elena stood side by side, watching the boy play.
On the third finger of Elena’s left hand, a signet ring made from the melted gold of the two family cufflinks caught the afternoon sunlight—the double-headed peregrine falcon perched securely upon a mason's stone compass.
"The federal investigation is officially closed," Ethan said, handing her a leather folder. "All foreign accounts have been repatriated, and the new trust charter has been ratified by the supreme court trustees."
"And the company?" Elena asked, looking up at him with a warm smile.
"The company has never been stronger," Ethan replied. He turned toward her, his gaze filled with a depth of affection and respect that words could scarcely capture. "Noah asked me this morning when we’re going to make the east wing renovation permanent."
Elena’s heart fluttered softly. "And what did you tell him?"
"I told him that the east wing is only a temporary arrangement," Ethan said softly, his voice dropping into that deep, tender baritone. "Because the master suite in the central pavilion has plenty of room... for the woman who saved our lives, and rebuilt our future."
Elena looked down at Noah, then back into Ethan’s steady, devoted gray eyes. The journey that had begun with a collapsing tower of crystal glasses had led her through water, fire, and darkness—straight into the home she had searched for her entire life.

"I think," Elena whispered, placing her hand gently into Ethan’s, "that sounds like a very solid foundation."
Ethan smiled, his fingers closing warmly over hers as Noah ran toward them, laughing, bringing the light of a new beginning to the Vance dynasty.
