Chapter 19 - The Final Severance

"Shut up!" Julian screamed, his finger tightening around the trigger. "If I go down, the Vance legacy burns with me!"

He swung the barrel toward Elena.

Before Julian could align the sight, Ethan lunged from the shadows with blinding, ferocious speed. His gloved hand caught Julian’s wrist, forcing the muzzle skyward just as the gun discharged with a deafening crack, the bullet shattering an overhead ammonia valve.

Pungent, stinging gas hissed violently into the air.

Ethan twisted Julian’s arm with clinical efficiency, disarming him as the revolver clattered into the drainage grate below. With one powerful thrust, Ethan slammed Julian against the refrigerated container, holding him pinned by the throat.

"Ethan... please... the gas... we'll choke!" Julian gasped, clawing weakly at Ethan’s impenetrable grip.

"You've been choking on your own poison for five years, Julian," Ethan whispered, his eyes unblinking in the freezing mist.

Elena swiftly bypassed the manual emergency valve on the wall, turning the heavy cast-iron wheel two full rotations to seal off the leaking refrigerant line, neutralizing the hazard before the vapors could overwhelm the room.

Footsteps echoed outside as Marcus and a squad of federal marshals flooded through the warehouse doors, their flashlights illuminating the scene.

Ethan lowered Julian into the waiting hands of the marshals.

"Julian Vance," the lead federal agent stated, snapping heavy steel cuffs onto Julian’s wrists. "You are under arrest for treason, interstate conspiracy, and attempted murder."

Julian hung his head in total, broken silence as he was led out into the foggy harbor night, his schemes permanently extinguished.
