Chapter 10

Walter walked slowly around the mahogany table, his footsteps echoing in the silent, candlelit room. He stopped directly in front of Richard, looking down at his son with eyes that had seen empires rise and fall, yet had never witnessed anything quite so pathetic. "You are finished in this family, Richard," Walter said, his voice final and absolute. "And you are finished in this city. Pack your bags tonight. By sunrise, the locks on this estate will be changed, and your names will be expunged from every single account, trust, and property deed bearing the Walter name." The bodyguard released his grip, and Richard slumped miserably onto the floor beside his weeping wife, staring blankly at the polished wooden planks of the dining room floor. Walter turned his back on them, walking over to Emma and placing a warm, affectionate hand on her shoulder. The harsh, clinical tension of the tribunal melted away, replaced by a profound, generational warmth as grandfather and granddaughter shared a quiet, knowing look. "Thank you for bringing me the truth, my girl," Walter murmured softly, his eyes glistening in the golden candlelight. "You saved what was left of this family." "We're just getting started, Grandpa," Emma replied, offering a faint, mysterious smile that hinted at even deeper revelations waiting to be uncovered. She turned and walked gracefully toward the heavy double doors of the dining room, leaving the ruined remnants of her parents' empire behind her in the dark. She pushed the doors open, stepping out into the cool, marble-floored foyer of the mansion. The holiday lights twinkled brightly through the oversized front windows, casting long, dancing shadows across the staircase. As her designer heels clicked steadily toward the exit, her phone vibrated against her palm. She glanced down at the screen, where a new, encrypted email notification from her chief legal investigator flashed in the dark: “Asset recovery complete. The secondary offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands have been successfully frozen. Shall we proceed with the next phase?” Emma stopped at the base of the grand staircase, her reflection staring back at her in the polished mahogany banister. A slow, triumphant smile touched her lips as she tapped a single word into her reply: “Proceed.”
