Chapter 6 - The Paper Trail of Greed

Securing Richard’s detention was only the opening salvo. Amanda knew that Evelyn was the true architect of the family's malice, and Evelyn still possessed the family fortune.

The next morning, Amanda brought in Leo Vance, a forensic accountant who had spent a decade auditing offshore corporate holdings. For twelve straight hours, we combed through bank statements, corporate filings, and the trust documentation left by my father.

What we found went far beyond the trust.

"Look at this transaction chain," Leo said, tapping a red line across a sprawling spreadsheet. "Six years ago, Richard and Evelyn convinced you to sign a series of corporate restructuring forms for your father's import-export enterprise."

"They told me it was standard tax optimization," I said, my heart sinking.

"It wasn't," Leo replied coldly. "They established a shell corporation in the Cayman Islands under Evelyn’s name. Over the last four years, Richard systematically siphoned over seven million dollars from your father's trust directly into this entity to cover catastrophic losses in his personal margin trading accounts."

"They were stealing her future," I whispered, gripping the edge of the mahogany desk until my knuckles turned white.

"Not just stealing it," Amanda added, leaning over Leo’s shoulder. "They were desperate. The trust accounts were due for a mandatory triennial audit by an independent trustee next month. When that audit took place, Richard’s embezzlement would have triggered immediate federal bank fraud charges. That’s why they were trying to declare Maya unfit—they needed total, unquestioned conservatorship to liquidate the remaining real estate assets and cover the deficit before the auditor looked at the books."

Every piece of the puzzle snapped into place. The cruelty wasn't just spiteful; it was a desperate cover-up by white-collar thieves backed into a corner.
