Chapter 6 - The Counter-Offensive

At precisely 12:00 PM, Chloe Vance triggered the digital offensive.

The narrative Vanessa had carefully constructed across social media was that I was a bitter, estranged older sister who had shown up uninvited to her fairytale wedding, intentionally caused a disruption, and provoked a defensive reaction. She had framed herself as the weeping, innocent bride whose once-in-a-lifetime day was sabotaged by familial jealousy.

By 12:05 PM, Vance & Keller PR issued a formal press release to every major local news outlet in Dallas and Austin, accompanied by an interactive digital docket uploaded to a dedicated legal disclosure site.

The release contained two files.

The first was a pristine, 4K slow-motion master video captured by the very photographer Vanessa had hired to document my humiliation. Chloe had boosted the audio track through state-of-the-art forensic filters. Every whisper, every sneer, and every snicker sounded like it was being delivered directly into a listener’s ear.

The video didn’t show an accident. It showed Vanessa pausing, making direct eye contact with the secondary lens, smirking, and deliberately heaving the crystal goblet across my chest. It captured her mic check, her cruel mocking laughter, and Eleanor’s venomous command for me to stay silent and take the abuse.

The second file was even more devastating: a side-by-side forensic timeline linking the wedding expenses directly to Carter Logistics' bank ledgers.

The public saw the exact receipts:

*Floral Arrangements: $64,000 billed as "Emergency Freight Diesel."*

*Catering & Vintage Wine: $42,000 billed as "Hydraulic Valve Replacement."*

*Honeymoon Suite in Bora Bora: $28,000 billed as "Tire Fleet Inventory."*

Within thirty minutes, the digital tide didn’t just turn; it became a tidal wave of public outrage.

The hashtag *#JusticeForBrielle* skyrocketed to the number one trending topic in the state of Texas. Thousands of comments that had previously condemned me suddenly inverted into furious condemnations of Vanessa and Eleanor.

*“She literally planned the wine pour! Look at her eyes before she threw it!”*

*“The mother told her to shut up while she was being publicly assaulted? What kind of monsters are these people?”*

*“She stole nearly half a million from her sister’s company to pay for that circus? Arrest her immediately!”*

I sat in the boardroom with Marcus Kane, watching the metrics tick upward by hundreds of thousands every five minutes. The telephone switchboard at Carter Logistics headquarters lit up like an airfield runway. Clients weren’t calling to cancel contracts anymore; they were calling to offer their support and demand that the board purge the individuals responsible for embezzling operational reserves.

Suddenly, Marcus’s private phone vibrated violently against the mahogany table. The caller ID flashed: *Eleanor Carter.*

Marcus tapped the speakerphone button. “Eleanor. You’re on speaker with Brielle and counsel.”

My mother’s voice came screeching through the line, completely unhinged, stripped of her usual country-club poise. “Brielle! Have you completely lost your mind?! Take those videos down this instant! The Austin Chronicle just ran an article! Our friends at the club are calling your father’s old partners! Do you realize what you’re doing to this family’s reputation?!”

“I’m protecting my father’s life work from common thieves, Eleanor,” I replied, my voice steady as stone.

“She is your sister!” Eleanor shrieked. “She made a mistake! She was stressed! You provoked her with that miserable, self-righteous attitude you always carry! Take it down, or so help me God, I will disown you from every trust your father ever created!”

Marcus leaned closer to the phone. “Mrs. Carter, this is Marcus Kane. I would strongly advise you to terminate this call immediately. Everything you are saying is being recorded under our active preservation notice. Furthermore, regarding your threat about the family trust—you might want to check your banking portal. As of forty-five minutes ago, the Travis County District Court granted an ex parte emergency asset freeze on every single account linked to those forged invoices.”

There was a sudden, choked gasp on the other end of the line.

“What?” Eleanor choked out. “What did you say?”

“Your accounts are locked, Mother,” I said quietly. “You and Vanessa wanted to play dirty in the court of public opinion. Now you can answer to a court of law.”
