Chapter 5 - The Collapse of Lawson

The confrontation that followed was swift and devastating.
Taking the podium, Audrey did not merely defend her family’s legacy; she dismantled the Lawson group’s leverage piece by piece. Over the past three weeks, she had coordinated with the Securities and Exchange Commission, revealing that Charles and Tyler Lawson had used shell accounts and illicit insider loans to acquire their Whitfield shares.
Audrey presented the Sterling Foundation's historic preservation filing, which legally bound the hotel to an irrevocable architectural trust, rendering the Lawsons' planned condo conversion unprofitable overnight.
Federal investigators waiting in the foyer stepped into the ballroom just as Audrey concluded her address. Charles Lawson turned on his son in a furious, hushed tirade before being escorted out to address the warrants. Tyler, stripped of his bravado and facing ruin, slunk out of the hall as the press corps cameras flashed incessantly.
The room erupted in applause, but Audrey’s eyes searched the perimeter.
