Chapter 4 - The Unmasking

The quarterly shareholders’ summit was held at the Whitfield Grand Ballroom—the exact room where Tyler had made his wager weeks earlier.

The Lawson coalition arrived in full force, confident they had secured the proxy votes needed to push Walter Whitfield into retirement. Tyler strutted across the parquet floor, surrounded by bankers and photographers hired to capture their corporate victory.

At the entrance, Sam arrived with the Sterling architectural team, tasked with presenting the restoration audit for the building’s preservation covenant. When Tyler noticed Sam among the technical staff, his face twisted in contempt.

"Security," Tyler barked loudly, drawing the attention of the entire room. "Why is a fired banquet server holding blueprints in an executive session?"

Before security could step forward, the heavy oak doors at the back of the ballroom opened.

Audrey entered, escorted by Walter Whitfield. This time, she wore no simple, unobtrusive fabric. She wore deep navy silk and the emerald crest of the Whitfield estate, seated proudly as the co-chair of the executive board.

The room fell dead silent.

Tyler’s smirk vanished. He glanced between Audrey and the seat at the head of the boardroom table.

"Audrey...?" Tyler stammered, the color draining from his face.

Audrey looked at him with steady, unyielding calm. "You asked for a dance weeks ago, Tyler. Now let's see how well you move when the stakes are real."

Across the hall, Sam stood frozen, blueprints in hand, staring at the woman he thought was just another forgotten face in the crowd.
