Chapter 27 - A NEW FOUNDATION

Three weeks after the safe in Eleanor’s study was emptied, the Fiona Vance Foundation officially broke ground on its new regional community center in the East District—the very parcel of land Julian Vance-Cole had tried to seize through his corporate shell games months earlier.

The groundbreaking ceremony was modest, attended by local families, community leaders, and the first cohort of scholarship recipients whose education was now fully funded by the recovered Veritas trust.

I stood at the podium in the center of the sunlit plaza, wearing a simple navy blue dress, holding Mia’s hand beside me.

"Wealth and power can build walls, but they cannot build a home," I said to the quiet, attentive crowd gathered around the podium. "Justice isn't something that happens in high-ceilinged courtrooms or corporate boardrooms. Justice is what happens when a family decides that their future will not be written by the people who tried to destroy them."

When the applause faded, Mia and I walked down the granite steps into the bright afternoon sunlight.

Marcus Vance was behind bars, Arthur Vance was dust, and the ghosts of Elmhurst Lane had been laid to rest. The foundation was self-sustaining, our home was safe, and the ledger of our family's history had finally been rewritten in our own hand.

My phone rang in my pocket. I pulled it out, glanced at the screen—a routine operational update from the foundation's intake director—and smiled.

I answered the query with two words: "Approved. Always."
