Chapter 3 - The Pitch and the Tension

At 9:30 AM, the lights in the Grand Ballroom dimmed. The room fell silent as Grant Whitmore stepped onto the stage. Spotlights caught the polished sheen of his shoes as he strode to the center podium, beaming with charismatic confidence.
"Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed investors, partners, and friends," Grant’s voice boomed through the state-of-the-art audio system. "For five years, Whitmore Renewal has chased a singular vision: to merge modern holistic wellness with timeless luxury. Today, I am proud to announce the culmination of that dream—our exclusive, multi-million-dollar global partnership with the crown jewel of the California coast... Monarch Cove."
Polite applause rippled through the audience. In the front row, Patricia and Douglas nodded smugly. Sienna smiled triumphantly from the side wings, recording the moment on her phone.
Grant paced the stage, feeding off the energy. "Some doubted us. Some said our growth model was too aggressive. But true leadership requires vision, courage, and alignment with institutions that share our values of heritage and trust. I want to personally thank my family, my dedicated team—especially Sienna Blake for her tireless creative direction—and my wonderful wife, Evelyn, who has always believed in the spirit of this resort."
He gestured toward the front row. All eyes turned to Evelyn. She did not smile. She did not clap. She simply looked up at him with eyes as cold as the Pacific deep.
Grant frowned internally, a cold drop of sweat forming at the base of his neck. Something was wrong. Evelyn’s silence wasn't fragile; it was predatory.
"Now," Grant forced a brighter smile, turning toward the massive LED screen behind him. "Let’s look at the financial projections and the official licensing agreement signed by the Monarch Cove executive board..."
He clicked his remote.

The screen flickered.
Instead of the corporate balance sheets and partnership graphs, the display lit up with high-definition, crystal-clear surveillance footage from yesterday afternoon at 4:16 PM.
