Chapter 7 - Unbreakable
Grace slowly lowered her captured rifle to the floor, keeping her hands visible. "Marcus, you know Sterling won't leave you alive. Once Ethan and Lily are gone, you become the only loose end."
"I have my exit strategy, Grace," Marcus spat. "Now step away from the child’s room!"
"No," Ethan said suddenly.
Ethan stepped directly in front of the barrel of Marcus’s gun, shielding Grace and the room behind her.
"What are you doing, Ethan?!" Marcus growled, his hand trembling slightly on the trigger. "Move!"
"You betrayed my family," Ethan said, his voice dropping an octave, filled with an authority Marcus had never heard before. "You helped kill my wife. You tried to poison my baby girl. If you want to touch them, you have to put a bullet through my heart first."
Marcus’s eyes flickered with hesitation. For a split second, his grip loosened.
That split second was all Grace needed.
Grace sprang forward, closing the six-foot gap like a striking cobra. She grabbed Marcus’s wrist, twisting it upward just as he pulled the trigger.
POP!
The silenced shot went wild, hitting the ceiling. Grace executed a rapid hip throw, slamming Marcus violently onto the concrete floor. Before he could recover, she drove her heel into his sternum, pinning him to the ground as his breath exploded out of his lungs in a sharp gasp.
Ethan grabbed the fallen pistol, thumbing off the safety, his face cold as stone.
"Where is Senator Sterling holding the evidence?" Ethan demanded, aiming the weapon at his former friend.
Marcus coughed, spitting blood onto his designer suit. "It... it doesn't matter... Sterling is at the Grand Capitol Gala right now... he’s announcing the emergency acquisition of Caldwell Shipping... claiming you went insane after your maid attacked Sabrina..."
Ethan looked at Grace. "How much time do we have?"

Grace checked her watch. "The acquisition vote is in forty-five minutes. If Sterling signs those papers, he legally takes over your company, your assets, and custody of Lily."
Ethan turned to Grace, his eyes burning with absolute determination. "Then we aren't hiding anymore, Grace. We’re going to the Gala."
