Chapter 4 - The Birth of Vance Global’s New Era

Two weeks later.
The private maternity wing at Mount Sinai Hospital was quiet, bathed in the soft, golden light of a late afternoon sun streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Central Park.
I lay in the bed, tired, exhausted, but filled with a deep, weightless peace I had not felt in years.
In the bassinet beside my bed lay my daughter—seven pounds, four ounces of pure, miraculous perfection. She had dark hair, bright blue eyes, and a quiet, steady gaze that reminded me so much of my father.
Mr. Harlan sat in a chair near the window, holding a stack of corporate documents and a small wooden box wrapped in blue velvet.
"The board meeting concluded an hour ago, Eleanor," Mr. Harlan smiled softly, setting the documents on my bedside table. "The emergency restructuring plan was approved unanimously. The European logistics division has been fully recovered, and Vanguard Apex Limited’s frozen assets have been returned to the corporate treasury."
"And Caleb's trial date?" I asked, looking down at my daughter as she stirred softly in her blanket.
"With Miss Sterling’s sworn affidavit and the forensic audio logs," Mr. Harlan replied, "Caleb’s legal team abandoned their motion to dismiss. He accepted a formal plea agreement twenty minutes ago: twelve years in federal custody at Fort Dix, with zero eligibility for early parole."
I let out a slow, deep breath. The long, dark shadow that had hung over my family for three years was finally gone.
Mr. Harlan picked up the blue velvet box and set it gently on my lap.
"Your father asked me to give you this on the day your child was born," Mr. Harlan whispered, his voice thick with quiet emotion.
I opened the velvet box. Inside rested a antique gold pocket watch—the very watch my father had carried with him when he built his first warehouse in Brooklyn forty years ago. Engraved on the back in delicate, hand-carved script were his words:
"TO MY DAUGHTER, ELEANOR. YOU WERE NEVER JUST MY HEIR. YOU WERE ALWAYS MY STRENGTH. PROTECT OUR FAMILY."
Tears filled my eyes, but they were no longer tears of grief or betrayal. They were tears of pride, love, and unbroken strength.

I picked up my newborn daughter, holding her close against my chest, feeling her small, warm heart beating steadily against mine.
"Her name is Charlotte," I whispered softly into her dark hair. "After her grandfather."
