Chapter 30 - The Obsidian Protocol

Silence fell over the underground bunker, heavy and suffocating.

Bishop stepped forward, checking Victoria’s pulse on her carotid artery. After three seconds, he looked up and shook his head. "She’s gone."

Federal tactical teams flooded the bunker behind us, securing the servers and bagging the evidence. The immediate threat that had hunted Rosalie since the day she woke up in that hospital bed—twenty-seven broken bones, Catherine Vance’s twisted matriarchy, Victor Kane’s mercenary army—was finally, unequivocally dead.

Rosalie stood in the center of the ruined bunker, staring at the body of the sister she never knew she had.

I walked up beside her, wrapping my arm around her shoulder. She leaned her head against my chest, letting out a long, shuddering breath that felt like the release of a year's worth of terror.

"Is it over, Alexander?" she asked quietly, her hand resting over my heart. "Is the nightmare finally over?"

I looked down at her battered, beautiful face—the woman who had refused to stay broken, who had fought her way back from the brink of death to stand beside me as an equal.

"The Vance family war is over, Rose," I said softly, kissing her temple. "You’ve reclaimed your name. You’re free."

Just then, the main command screen behind Victoria's corpse flickered back to life.

A chilling, automated voice echoed through the concrete cavern:

*“Obsidian Protocol activated. Identity confirmed: Captain Alexander Sinclair. Accessing Classified Archive: Project Iron Gate.”*

On the massive digital wall, a live video feed abruptly materialized.

It wasn't a corporate boardroom. It was a sterile, subterranean interrogation chamber deep within an undisclosed military facility.

Sitting in a metal chair under a harsh fluorescent bulb, wearing the faded orange jumpsuit of a deep-black prisoner of war, was an older man with gray hair, broad shoulders, and a distinct jagged scar running from his ear to his jawline.

He had the exact same eyes as me.

The man looked directly into the security camera lens, his dry, cracked lips moving silently before he spoke in a rasping voice that shook the foundation of my entire reality:

*"Alexander... if you are seeing this... don't look for me. They used Catherine to stage my death. The grave at Arlington... is empty."*

The screen flashed black.

The terminal emitted a piercing, continuous tone as the hard drives initiated a catastrophic self-destruct meltdown, filling the bunker with the sharp stench of burning silicon.

Beside me, Rosalie gripped my arm with crushing force, her eyes wide with shock.

"Alexander..." she breathed, trembling. "That was... your father."

I stood frozen in the smoke, my heart stopping in my chest, my grip tightening on my rifle until the metal groaned under my fingers.

May you like

My father was alive.

And somewhere in the dark, the real war had just begun.
