Chapter 10 - Justice and Ash

The arrest of Evelyn and Vanessa Vance became the biggest scandal of the decade.
The drone footage of the wedding pool push was leaked to the media alongside Tyler’s sworn confession and bank records detailing the payments made to orchestrate my hit-and-run accident. Overnight, the pristine facade of the Vance family was obliterated.
Vanessa was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, conspiracy, and grand larceny. Evelyn was charged with felony child endangerment, fraud, money laundering, and witness tampering. The court denied them both bail due to the immense flight risk and the sheer cruelty of their premeditated crimes.

Adam walked in, carrying a cup of herbal tea. He looked lighter, the heavy shadow of his near-fatal mistake with Vanessa entirely lifted from his shoulders.
"The probate judge signed the final order this morning," Adam said softly, setting the cup down beside me. "The trust has been completely restored to your name, Mara. Every asset, every property, and the insurance payouts that Evelyn fraudulently intercepted. You are free."

I looked out at the rolling green hills of the estate, feeling a strange, hollow sensation where my grief used to live. "I don't know how to exist without constantly looking over my shoulder, Adam. My entire life, I thought I was unlovable because of how they treated me."
"You were never unlovable," Adam replied, taking my hand gently in his. "You were just surrounded by monsters."
