Chapter 6 - Unmasking the Mogul

By 9:30 AM, the courtyard in front of Hayes Technologies headquarters was swarming with cameras, news vans, and hungry reporters. Brenda had played her cards masterfully, sending frantic tips to every tabloid in the city: *Tech Mogul’s Pregnant Fiancée Assaulted and Thrown on the Street by Vengeful Ex-Wife.*
Ethan stood before a forest of microphones, his eyes artificially weary, his tie loosened to portray a heartbroken man under siege. Beside him, Margaret wore a neck brace she had acquired from an urgent care clinic an hour earlier, dabbing fake tears with a lace handkerchief, while Brenda cradled her belly, weeping softly for the cameras.
“Thank you all for coming,” Ethan began, his voice quivering with rehearsed sorrow. “I never wanted our private family tragedy to become a public spectacle. But when my ex-wife, Claire, violently attacked my elderly mother and threatened the life of my unborn child out of jealousy... I had to speak out. Claire was unable to bear children, and instead of seeking healing, she turned to madness. She used forged documents and corrupt influence to seize my family home in the dead of night.”
Flashbulbs exploded in a continuous, blinding wave. Reporters shouted questions over one another.
“Mr. Hayes, is it true she poured boiling liquid on your family?”
“Mr. Hayes, will you be pressing attempted murder charges against her?”
Margaret stepped up to the microphone, her voice a theatrical wail. “She tried to kill us! She has no heart! She’s an empty, sterile monster who destroyed my son’s life!”
Before the reporters could feed on the drama any further, a low, thunderous roar cut through the downtown traffic.
A motorcade of six obsidian-black Maybachs, led by four state police motorcycle escorts, turned smoothly onto the plaza boulevard. The sheer authority of the convoy silenced the crowd instantly. The polished black vehicles pulled up directly in front of the press podium, forming a protective crescent.
The rear door of the center Maybach swung open. A security detail clad in bespoke charcoal suits stepped out, parting the sea of journalists with effortless precision.
And then, she stepped into the sunlight.
The collective breath of the crowd vanished.
It was Claire. But the quiet, mouse-like woman who wore oversized sweaters and hid behind wire-rimmed glasses was nowhere to be seen. She wore a flawless, tailored ivory Dior suit that accentuated an aura of lethal elegance. Her dark hair was styled into an immaculate chignon, her lips painted a striking crimson. On her lapel pinned a brooch crafted of platinum laurels wrapping an anchor—encrusted with over fifty carats of flawless diamonds.

Beside her stood Alexander Vance, an imposing figure whose cold, aristocratic face was instantly recognized by every financial journalist in the country.
Ethan’s mouth fell open, his voice dying in his throat. “C-Claire?”
