Chapter 5 - The Voice of the Ghost

Daniel’s eyes darted frantically across the room. He looked at the Chief Financial Officer, a man he had bought expensive golf trips for, but the man refused to meet his eyes. He looked at the legal counsel, who was staring down at a freshly stamped indictment.

"This is my company!" Daniel roared, veins bulging in his neck. "My father left Whitmore Logistics to the son who proved himself worthy! You were a ghost, Nathaniel! I ran these ports! I closed the European shipping merger!"

"You closed nothing," Nathan replied, standing up to his full, towering height of six-foot-three.

When Nathan stood, Daniel instinctively shrunk back. Nathan walked around the perimeter of the table, his footsteps slow, deliberate, and terrifyingly calm. He stopped three paces from his twin.

"You didn't close the European merger, Daniel. I negotiated the terms under the alias of 'Vance Maritime Consulting' from my private terminal while you were busy spending corporate funds on superyachts in Monaco. Every major route acquisition, every automated port contract, every billion-dollar hedge this company made over the past five years was drafted by my hand and signed through Arthur’s power of attorney."

Nathan stopped directly in front of Daniel. He was broader, taller, and carried an aura of absolute dominance that suffocated the room.

"You were never the CEO, Daniel," Nathan whispered coldly into his twin's face. "You were simply the clown I let dance on the stage so my enemies wouldn't see the blade coming."

Daniel swung his fist.

It was an act of pure, desperate hysteria. But before his punch could even travel halfway, Nathan caught Daniel’s wrist in an iron grip. With a sickening crunch of leverage, Nathan twisted Daniel’s arm down, forcing the arrogant playboy to his knees on the carpet.

"Agh! Let go of me!" Daniel screamed in agony.

Nathan leaned down, his voice barely above a murmur, meant only for Daniel and the pale, trembling Margaret.

"You took my father’s last days from him. You poisoned my name. And you thought you could use Claire as the sacrificial pawn in your pathetic scheme." Nathan tightened his grip, making Daniel whimper. "You wanted to throw her away, Daniel. But in doing so, you handed me the only key that could unlock my father's ultimate trust."

Nathan let go, shoving Daniel backward like a sack of trash.

Marcus Vance pressed a button on the remote.

The projection screens shifted from legal documents to a video feed. A low, gravelly voice echoed through the high-end speakers, silencing the entire room.

It was Arthur Whitmore, recorded two weeks before his death in his private study.

*"If this tape is playing,"* Arthur’s weathered face spoke from the screen, his eyes burning with familiar ferocity, *"it means my son Nathaniel has emerged from the shadows. And it means my wife Margaret and my son Daniel have committed treason against this family."*

Margaret stumbled back against the wall, clutching her throat. "Arthur..."

*"Daniel,"* the dying patriarch continued, *"you are vain, greedy, and weak. You believed you could deceive the world. Therefore, pursuant to Article Nine of the Whitmore Family Testamentary Trust, if Daniel Whitmore fails to appear at his designated marriage ceremony or attempts to substitute Nathaniel in his place, all rights, shares, titles, and ancestral assets allocated to Daniel are immediately revoked. They pass unconditionally to Nathaniel Whitmore and his lawful wife."*

Arthur’s image leaned closer to the camera.

*"Nathaniel... my boy. The storm is yours. Clean the house."*

The screen went black.
