Chapter 3 - The Country Club Raid

By 8:00 PM that evening, the elite, gated country club community of Oakridge Estates—where Tessa and Morgan lived in matching million-dollar colonial homes financed by their family trust—was shrouded in quiet autumn fog.
A black tactical van and three unmarked police cruisers rolled silently past the security gate without stopping, their automated toll-tag override codes provided directly by my military intelligence unit.
Inside Tessa’s grand, marble-floored foyer, a wine and cheese reception was underway.
Tessa—wearing an emerald designer dress, holding a glass of pinot noir—was laughing loudly with three local socialites, while Morgan stood near the piano, discussing their upcoming charity gala.
"Honestly," Tessa was saying, swirling her wine glass with an air of absolute arrogance, "the girl was always so dramatic. A little discipline was the only way to get her to cooperate with the video. Once Ryan gets full custody tomorrow morning, we won't ever have to look at that desk clerk again."
CRASH.
The heavy double mahogany front doors of the mansion were kicked inward with a single, synchronized tactical breach.
The wooden frame splintered as four armed tactical officers from the Chicago Police SWAT division swarmed into the foyer, their assault rifles pointed toward the ceiling, shouting commands.
"POLICE! DOWN ON THE FLOOR! HANDS WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM!"
Tessa screamed, dropping her wine glass, which shattered against the marble tiles, purple liquid splashing across the hem of her expensive designer dress.
Morgan stumbled backward into the grand piano, her face turning chalk-white. "What... what is this?! Do you know who our father is?! We are members of the Oakridge Board of Directors—"
"Tessa Morgan Braddock! Morgan Leigh Braddock!" Detective Miller announced, stepping through the breach, flanked by Chief Warrant Officer Davis, who held an open electronic tablet. "You are under arrest for Attempted Murder, Aggravated Child Abuse, Conspiracy to Commit Perjury, and Tampering with Evidence."
"This is ridiculous!" Tessa shrieked, her voice pitching into a hysterical, shrill scream as two female officers grabbed her arms and forced her down onto the marble floor. "We didn't do anything! That brat fabricated the whole thing!"
I walked through the broken doors into the foyer.
My combat boots clicked loudly against the shattered wine glass. I wasn't wearing my military dress uniform; I was wearing my tactical field gear, my tactical vest dark against the light, my eyes cold, hard, and unblinking.
Tessa looked up from the floor, her eyes widening in sheer, paralyzing terror as she recognized the woman standing above her.
"Nia...?" Tessa whispered, her voice trembling. "How... how did you get past the gate?"
May you like
I knelt down slowly until my face was inches from my former sister-in-law's flushed, panicked skin.
"You told my daughter that when I came back, I'd deal with her," I whispered, my voice smooth, quiet, and absolutely terrifying. "I'm back, Tessa. And I'm all yours."
