Chapter 14 - The Video Goes Nuclear

The internet moves at lightning speed, but truth hits with the force of an avalanche. At three o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, the verified press account of the Brooks Global Media division released a three-minute, high-definition video package titled: The Complete Record: Five Days Postpartum.
It wasn't a PR statement; it was unvarnished reality.
The footage opened with the hospital's exterior camera. The timestamp clearly read: 12:14 PM. The audio was crisp and sickeningly clear. Millions of viewers watched Dominic Foster casually adjust his cashmere coat, press a crumpled fifty-dollar bill into my trembling hand, and tell me that his sister walked three days after giving birth. They heard his sneer as he declared that I was 'always looking for an excuse to play the helpless victim.'
They watched Victoria Foster emerge in her expensive coat, complaining that valet parking would give away their reservation at Carbone if they didn't hurry. And most devastating of all, the entire world watched Dominic toss my newborn's diaper bag into the trunk of a luxury SUV registered in my maiden name, slam the door, and drive off into traffic, leaving his pale, trembling wife and five-day-old infant stranded at a public bus stop in freezing winter winds.
The footage then cut directly to the restaurant interior an hour later—Dominic toasting his family with a forty-five-hundred-dollar bottle of wine while his wife was being rescued on a city bus by private medical staff.
Within ninety minutes, the video had fifty million views across TikTok, X, and Instagram.
By six o'clock, the narrative was obliterated.
The hashtag #FiftyDollarDeadbeat became the number one trending topic worldwide. Every morning news anchor, mommy blogger, and legal commentator dismantled Dominic Foster's fabricated sob story with surgical disgust.
On social media, the comments were merciless:
"He left her with thirty-two staples in her stomach so he could eat spicy pasta?!"
"The mother is a monster, the son is a sociopath. Lock them both up!"
"He was driving HER car! The car her father bought!"
Victoria Foster's internet talk show appearance was scrubbed from YouTube after the host issued a public apology for giving a platform to 'a woman who abandoned her own grandchild on a frozen sidewalk.'
Inside a rented basement apartment in White Plains, Dominic Foster stared at his phone, watching his follower counts plummet into negative territory as thousands of outraged citizens flooded his employer’s LinkedIn page demanding his immediate termination.
"Dominic, turn it off!" Victoria shrieked from the kitchenette, clutching her head as reporters banged on the street-level windows outside. "They know where we live! There are news vans outside! How did she get that footage?!"
"She had cameras everywhere," Dominic whispered, his skin pasty, his hands shaking so violently he dropped his phone onto the cracked linoleum. "Mom... FleetRoute just locked me out of the portal. Mr. Blackwood's assistant sent an email. They're terminating my contract immediately."
"They can't do that!" Victoria yelled. "We have a deal! They promised you a VP title!"
Before Dominic could reply, a heavy knock rattled the wooden front door. It wasn't the press.
Dominic cracked the door open on its chain. Standing on the crumbling porch were two agents wearing dark windbreakers with yellow lettering: FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION.

"Dominic Foster?" the lead agent asked, holding up a badge. "We have a warrant for your arrest regarding wire fraud, conspiracy, and customs violations in connection with FleetRoute Logistics. Step out with your hands visible."
Dominic's knees gave out, his forehead hitting the wooden frame as the handcuffs clicked tightly around his wrists.
