Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

The sun dipped below Lake Michigan, painting the Chicago skyline in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and deep gold.
On the private balcony of Harrington’s penthouse overlooking the lake, Faye stood with a steaming mug of tea in her hands. The air was crisp, carrying the clean scent of autumn and limitless possibility.
Behind her, the sliding glass door opened, and Nadia scampered out, wrapped in a fluffy blanket. "Mommy, Grandpa says dinner is ready!"
Faye smiled, turning around and sweeping her daughter up into a warm, effortless hug. "Tell Grandpa we'll be right there, sweetie."
As Nadia ran back inside, laughing, Faye looked out over the glittering city lights. For four years, she had believed that her life ended the day she gave up her residency and stepped into Lawson’s shadow. She had spent years apologizing for her brilliance, shrinking her voice, and accepting crumbs of affection disguised as ambition.
The fire on the 17th floor had been a catastrophe, but as she looked at her glowing reflection in the glass, she realized it had also been a cleansing flame. It burned away every illusion, every false comfort, and every ounce of fear.
Hugo stepped out onto the balcony, holding two glasses of sparkling cider. He handed one to his daughter, clinking his glass against hers with a knowing grin.
"To new beginnings," Hugo said quietly.

Faye took a sip, looking out at the horizon where the city lights stretched endlessly into the night. She was no longer hiding, no longer translating cruelty, and no longer waiting for permission to shine.
"To the future," Faye replied, her voice ringing with absolute, unbreakable strength. "And this time, we write the rules."
