Chapter 1 - The Gathering Storm

The private medical center room was silent save for the steady, reassuring beep of the monitor tracking Nadia’s vital signs. Faye Harrington sat at the edge of her hospital bed, staring at her hands. The gray soot of the Whitmore Grand Hotel had been scrubbed away, but the memory of those terrifying minutes on the 17th floor burned brighter than ever.
Her father, Hugo Harrington, stood by the window, watching the distant Chicago skyline. For four years, Faye had maintained an ironclad wall of silence between her new life and the formidable empire her father commanded. She had traded her brilliant future as a pediatric surgery resident for a modest, quiet existence, convincing herself that Lawson’s ambition and emotional detachment were simply the costs of a dedicated medical marriage.
That illusion had turned to ash on the 17th floor.
"He thinks he's untouchable," Faye whispered, her voice steadying as the adrenaline finally gave way to a cold, razor-sharp resolve. "Lawson spent seven years treating my devotion like an inconvenience. He left our daughter to suffocate while he played the hero for a woman who lied about her heart."
Hugo turned slowly, his sharp eyes catching the dim light of the room. "Lawson Sterling is a rising star in thoracic surgery, Faye. He sits on hospital boards, he rubs shoulders with directors, and he believes his charm shields him from accountability. He has no idea who he just crossed."

"I don't want a quiet divorce," Faye said, standing up, her posture straightening with an innate authority she hadn't felt since her residency days. "I want him to realize every single privilege, every promotion, and every ounce of prestige he holds was built on a foundation he never earned. I want his world to unravel the exact same way he let ours burn."
Hugo walked over, a rare, approving smile touching the corners of his mouth. "Then we don't just dismantle his career, my girl. We rewrite the boardrooms. Welcome back to Harrington Health Capital."
