Chapter 6 - The Fall of the Vales

By noon, the financial world was in absolute chaos.
Federal agents executed a simultaneous search warrant on the downtown headquarters of Vale Broadcast Group and the penthouse suite owned by Grant Vale.
Live television feeds showed news cameras capturing the moment federal marshals escorted Grant Vale out of his building in handcuffs. Within minutes, Vale Broadcast Group's stock crashed by eighty-four percent, triggering an automatic trading halt on the New York Stock Exchange.
In a luxurious estate in Mercer Island, Madison Vale sat amidst a sea of designer boxes, watching the news broadcast on a giant television screen. Her hands trembled so violently that her coffee cup shattered on the hardwood floor.
Her phone rang continuously—sponsors dropping her, agencies terminating her contracts, and high-society friends blocking her number one by one.
Suddenly, the front doors of her mansion opened.
Two sleek black SUVs pulled into the driveway. Claire Everhart stepped out, accompanied by two corporate lawyers and a team of private auditors.
Madison ran to the front door, her eyes wild with rage and fear. "What are you doing here?! Get off my property!"
Claire walked up the front steps with slow, measured grace. "This isn't your property anymore, Madison. The Vale Family Trust was used as collateral for Lucas’s fraudulent loans with Everhart Global. As of nine o'clock this morning, Everhart Global has seized all assets associated with the trust."
"You can't do this!" Madison screamed, tears running down her ruined makeup. "My father will kill you! Lucas will fix this!"
"Your father is currently being processed at the federal detention center," Claire said calmly. "And Lucas just signed a full confession in exchange for a reduced sentence."
Madison staggered backward, clutching her chest. "You... you ruined my life because of a dress?!"
Claire stopped a foot away from her, looking down at the hysterical woman with calm authority.
"I didn't ruin your life, Madison. Your vanity and cruelty did. You thought you could crush a waitress because you assumed she had no power. You were wrong."

Claire pulled a small velvet box from her purse, opened it, and placed it on the side table near the entryway. Inside was the sapphire ring Madison had worn the night before—the same ring that had torn Claire's dress.
"The asset seizure team will give you one hour to pack one suitcase of personal items," Claire said softly. "Everything else belongs to the foundation you stole from."
