Chapter 2 - The Silent House of GlassThe silence that followed Daniel's confrontation in the backyard was heavy and suffocating. The guests began scattering like rats from a sinking ship, muttering hurried excuses about prior engagements and rushing to their luxury cars parked along the curb. Vanessa, however, didn't flinch. Her smug smile had vanished, replaced by a hardened, mask-like composure as she stepped forward, attempting to regain control of the narrative.

"Daniel, don't be dramatic," Vanessa purred, smoothing down the front of her designer summer dress with practiced ease. "It was just a harmless party game. The child needed a lesson in boundaries after ruining the catering table earlier. You're making a scene in front of our friends."
Daniel stood slowly from the grass, his frame towering over her. He didn't yell. He didn't throw punches. His voice, when it finally cut through the humid afternoon air, was dangerously quiet.
"Get inside," Daniel said.
"Excuse me?" Vanessa scoffed, crossing her arms defensively. "You're going to talk to me like that in our own home because the kid got a little wet—"
"I said, get inside," Daniel repeated, taking a menacing step forward that forced Vanessa to take an involuntary step back. "If you take another breath outside this house before I deal with you, I swear to God you won't recognize what’s left of your life."
Realizing for the first time that the man she had spent two years manipulating was entirely gone, Vanessa turned on her heel and retreated into the house, slamming the kitchen door behind her.
Daniel knelt back down beside Lily, his expression instantly softening as he wrapped his own dry suit jacket tightly around her trembling shoulders.
"You're safe now, sweetie," Daniel whispered, his voice cracking with emotion as he pulled her into a protective embrace. "Daddy's here. No one is ever going to hurt you or humiliate you like this again. I promise you."
Lily buried her face into his chest, letting out a muffled sob that tore right through Daniel's heart. "I'm sorry, Daddy... I tried to be good. I didn't want to make her mad..."
"You did nothing wrong," Daniel vowed fiercely, kissing the top of her wet hair. "Nothing at all."
Inside the house, Vanessa was already packing a designer leather overnight bag, convinced she could weather the storm at a luxury hotel until Daniel "cooled off." She had no idea that the digital footprint she had so carefully managed was about to be blown wide open.

As Daniel carried Lily through the back door, his phone buzzed in his pocket. It was a text message from an unknown number containing a short, encrypted video file with the caption: “Thought you should see what happens when you’re at work, Mr. Vance. Your wife thinks she’s untouchable.”
Daniel’s blood ran cold. The war for his family had just begun.
