Chapter 81 - The Shadow on Ghost Mountain

The trench across the face of Ghost Mountain widened into a massive, yawning chasm that split the ridgeline in two.

Centuries-old trees fell like matchsticks into the luminous blue abyss, swallowed by the heatless, ionizing radiance pouring from the earth. The sky directly above the array was no longer violet; it had turned an impossible, blinding emerald, swirling in an atmospheric vortex that pulled the blizzard clouds into a spiraling eye directly over Blackwood Crest.

The tactical operators didn't raise their weapons. Instead, to my utter shock, every single one of them lowered their carbines, stepped back, and stood at rigid, formal attention facing the chasm.

Resting on the center of that desk was a second, identical leather purse, unburned, pristine, and tagged with an evidence label bearing tomorrow’s date—and beside it, an old Western Union teleprinter clattered violently into life, rapidly punching out a single, urgent message onto a strip of yellow paper that began spilling out onto the bloodstained snow...
