Chapter 6 - The True Family

One year later. Summer.
The grand gardens of the Moretti Estate were transformed into a sunlit paradise of white roses, linen tables, and soft string music.
Over two hundred guests sat in elegant wooden chairs under the clear blue sky—family friends, business associates, and loyal council members who had gathered to celebrate the wedding of Don Dante Moretti and Elena Carter.
Standing at the altar under a canopy of blooming white hydrangeas was Dante, wearing an immaculate black tuxedo, his hair styled neatly, looking like the proudest, happiest man on earth.
Standing beside him as his best man was four-year-old Leo, wearing a tiny matching black tuxedo and a red bow tie, proudly holding the velvet ring pillow in his small hands.
The music shifted to the traditional bridal march.
I stepped onto the white aisle carpet, wearing a breathtaking lace gown that trailed behind me, holding a bouquet of lily-of-the-valley.
Dante's eyes locked onto mine the moment I appeared.
The feared Don of Chicago stood at the altar with tears glistening in his gray eyes, watching the woman he had fought three years to reclaim walk toward him under the summer sun.
When I reached the altar, Dante took my hand, his fingers warm, strong, and steady.
"You are the most beautiful sight in the world, Elena," Dante whispered softly.
"And you are finally home," I smiled back.
The priest read the traditional vows—vows of love, honor, protection, and eternal devotion.
When it came time for the rings, little Leo stepped forward on tiptoes, holding up the velvet pillow with a bright, beaming smile.
"Here you go, Daddy!" Leo whispered loudly, making the entire congregation laugh warmly.
Dante took the platinum band, sliding it onto my finger, before I slid his gold band onto his hand.
"By the authority vested in me," the priest announced, smiling brightly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Dante, you may kiss your bride."
Dante pulled me into his arms, dipping me slightly as he kissed me with all the love, passion, and relief that had built up over eleven long years.
The entire garden erupted into thunderous, standing applause, cheering and clapping under the warm, golden sun.
Leo threw his tiny arms around both of our legs, shouting happily: "We did it!"
Dante lifted our son into his arms, wrapping his other arm tightly around my waist, holding us both close against his heart.

The darkness was gone. The lies were buried forever under the weight of truth, sacrifice, and unconditional love.
And standing together on the sunlit terrace of our true home, my husband, my son, and I were finally, wonderfully, completely whole.
