Chapter 6 - The Unbroken Horizon

Six months later.

The autumn air over Manhattan was crisp, clean, and carrying the vibrant energy of changing leaves and bustling city streets.

I stood on the private wrap-around balcony of my newly renovated penthouse suite at Rossi Tower, wearing a tailored cream cashmere coat, looking out over the magnificent sprawl of Central Park below.

The corporate restructuring of Ashford & Sterling was entirely complete. The toxic debt had been restructured, the corrupt management team had been permanently ousted, and the firm—now rebranded as Rossi-Ashford Holdings—was operating under strict ethical guidelines with a brand-new CEO who actually knew how to manage finances without exploiting employees or relying on family nepotism.

As for Trevor and Camille?

The engagement didn't survive the weekend of the leaked audio broadcast. Camille’s father disowned Trevor entirely, stripping him of his corporate title, his company car, and his health insurance before kicking him out of the family mansion. Last I heard, Trevor had packed up his few remaining belongings and moved back to an apartment building somewhere in Queens—not far from the basement where we had first started.

Karma, it turned out, had a wonderful sense of symmetry.

The glass balcony door chimed softly behind me.

Marcus stepped out onto the terrace, holding two steaming cups of coffee and a thick manila folder containing the final quarterly earnings report.

“Morning, Boss,” Marcus smiled, handing me a cup. “You’re looking awfully relaxed for someone hosting a global board meeting at noon.”

I took the coffee, wrapping my hands around the warm ceramic cup, letting the steam rise against my face.

“Why shouldn't I be relaxed, Marcus?” I asked, smiling as I looked out toward the endless, unbroken horizon of the city skyline. “I built an empire from the ground up, I cleared out the trash, and I’ve never slept better in my life.”

Marcus chuckled, clinking his ceramic cup against mine. “Here’s to never looking backward.”

“To never looking backward,” I repeated softly.

I took a long sip of my coffee, the warm liquid spreading through my chest with absolute, unshakable peace. The champagne had washed away a long time ago, but the woman standing in its place was never going to wash away again.
