Chapter 27 - The Final Slap
The realization crashed into Victoria like a physical blow. The empire she had spent a lifetime manipulating, blackmailing, and killing to control had evaporated in less than five minutes.
"You... you dirty little whore," Victoria spat, lunging suddenly past Ethan, her manicured acrylic nails aiming straight for my eyes. "You stole my son! You ruined my family!"
She didn't reach me.
Ethan caught her wrist in mid-air with a grip that made her bones audible crunch.
The entire ballroom gasped. Victoria shrieked in pain, her knees buckling. But Ethan didn't let go. He twisted her arm downward, forcing her to look down at the floor, right at Lily’s small patent-leather shoes.
"Don't you ever look at my wife again," Ethan whispered, his voice vibrating with such primal fury that even the armed agents on the stage froze.
He didn't hit her. Ethan had too much discipline, too much dignity to stoop to the savagery she had shown at Christmas dinner.
Instead, he let go of her wrist.
Victoria collapsed into a pathetic, undignified heap on the velvet carpeting of the stage, clutching her sprained wrist, sobbing not tears of sorrow, but tears of venomous, helpless humiliation.
Two female federal agents stepped forward, pulling Victoria's arms behind her back. The sharp, metallic *CLACK* of handcuffs echoed clearly over the open microphones.
"Victoria Medina-Carter, you are under arrest for attempted capital murder, corporate fraud, conspiracy to commit arson, and federal tax evasion," the lead agent read coldly, hauling the once-untouchable socialite to her feet.
As they dragged her past the press corps, flashbulbs exploding in her face, Victoria caught my eye one last time.
Her hair was disheveled, her expensive pearls torn and scattering across the stage floor like cheap plastic beads.
I didn't yell at her. I didn't mock her.

I simply raised my chin, held my daughter higher, and let her see that the woman she had slapped three times was standing tall, untouched, and completely victorious.
