Chapter 5 - The Clean Slate

Three months later.
The legal dissolution of our marriage was finalized in record time, expedited by an airtight prenuptial agreement I had quietly had him sign on the morning of our wedding—a document he had signed without reading, assuming it merely protected his non-existent assets.
In reality, it ensured that upon dissolution due to infidelity, all marital property reverted entirely to me, leaving Preston with zero financial claims, zero alimony, and a mountain of legal debt from his failed corporate ventures.
His mother, Eleanor, had been forced to move out of the Miami mansion into a modest, two-bedroom apartment across town, where she was reportedly learning how to wash her own dishes for the first time in her life.
And Vanessa? She had packed her bags and moved to Dallas two weeks after the gala, leaving Preston entirely alone in a cheap studio apartment downtown, working a entry-level customer service job just to pay his electric bill.

Marcus Vance walked out onto the helipad, handing me a fresh leather folder containing the final global portfolio acquisitions for the fiscal year.
“Everything is locked in, Madam Chairwoman,” Marcus smiled respectfully. “Vanguard Tech’s remaining patents have been successfully absorbed into our tech division, and your personal branding index has never been higher.”
“Thank you, Marcus,” I said, taking the folder.
My private helicopter touched down softly on the pad, its rotor blades whirring in a steady, powerful rhythm.
I looked out over the endless, glittering expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, watching the horizon stretch out into a brilliant, unbroken line of gold and blue.
They had tried to keep me in the kitchen. They had tried to silence my voice, belittle my labor, and erase my identity.

Instead, they had simply given me the stage to show the world who was truly in charge.
I stepped into the helicopter, fastened my seatbelt, and lifted off into an endless, magnificent horizon of my own design.
