Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Execution

By 9:00 AM on Monday morning, the executive boardroom of Moretti, Vance & Sterling on Wall Street was completely locked down.
The thirty-second floor overlooked the grey, misty expanse of New York Harbor. Inside, the twenty-four senior partners of the firm sat around a massive oval table crafted from polished black granite.
Vanessa Sinclair sat near the foot of the table, wearing a sharp ivory suit, her posture rigid, her hands neatly folded over her leather folder. She had spent the weekend sending frantic text messages to Luca, trying to spin a narrative of a "tragic misunderstanding born out of love." He had not replied to a single one.
She assumed this emergency partners' meeting was called to address an upcoming corporate acquisition.
She was wrong.
The heavy mahogany doors opened, and Luca walked in.
He didn't look tired anymore. He wore a crisp, dark charcoal suit, a tailored white shirt, and a deep blue tie. His dark hair was combed back, his face carved from ice. Behind him walked three men in sharp grey suits—investigators from the New York State Bar Association and two officers from the NYPD Financial Crimes Division.
Vanessa’s face went pale the moment she saw the officers.
Luca walked to the head of the table, remaining standing. He did not sit. He looked down at the twenty-four partners with an expression of cold, absolute authority.
“Good morning, gentlemen,” Luca began, his voice echoing off the glass panels. “We are here today to address a severe breach of corporate security, grand larceny, evidence tampering, and felony fraud committed within this firm.”
A quiet murmur rippled across the room. Senior partner Arthur Vance frowned. “Luca? What is this about?”
Luca pulled a remote control from his pocket and pressed a button.
The massive digital display at the front of the room lit up.
Instead of financial spreadsheets or acquisition timelines, the screen displayed a series of bank transfers, internal server audit logs, and high-resolution emails detailing the payments made from Moretti, Vance & Sterling’s private escrow account to Marcus Vance’s private investigation agency.
Vanessa gasped, half-rising from her chair. “Luca! This is a private matter—!”
“Sit down, Miss Sinclair,” Officer Miller of the NYPD said, stepping into her path.
Luca clicked the remote again.
On the screen appeared a forensic handwriting analysis report from the FBI document division, proving that Vanessa Sinclair had forged my signature on multiple financial documents, hotel receipts, and corporate NDA waivers using firm equipment.
“For eighteen months,” Luca said, his voice ringing through the silent boardroom like a death sentence, “Associate Partner Vanessa Sinclair has been using firm escrow funds to conduct private surveillance, commit forgery, engage in grand larceny, and frame an innocent civilian—my wife, Isabella Moretti.”
The boardroom erupted into chaos.
“Is this true?!” Arthur Vance demanded, standing up and glaring at Vanessa with absolute disgust. “You used firm escrow accounts for personal extortion?!”
“Luca, please!” Vanessa cried out, tears spilling over her mascara as she looked up at the head of the table. “I did it for you! I loved you! She was nothing! She didn't deserve you!”
Luca looked down at her from thirty feet away. His expression didn't contain an ounce of pity. It was the look a man gives a poisonous insect he is about to crush under his heel.
“You didn't do it for me, Vanessa,” Luca said coldly. “You did it because you are a sociopath who believed my name, my fortune, and my family belonged to you. You didn't just ruin your career today. You ruined your life.”
Officer Miller stepped forward, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt.
“Vanessa Sinclair,” Officer Miller announced, pulling her arms behind her back as the steel clicked shut over her wrists. “You are under arrest for grand larceny, corporate embezzlement, forgery in the first degree, and illegal surveillance.”
Vanessa screamed, weeping hysterically as she was dragged out of the glass doors of the boardroom in front of every senior partner in the city, her high-society reputation destroyed beyond any hope of salvation.
Luca didn't even watch her leave.

He picked up his leather briefcase, turned to his partners, and said quietly, “Arthur, take over the chair. I am taking an indefinite leave of absence.”
Without waiting for a response, Luca turned and walked out of the room.
