Chapter 7 - The Desperate Strike

Monica knew she was finished, and like a cornered animal, she decided that if she was going down, she would burn my entire life to the ground with her.

On January 25th, six days before the moveout deadline, my phone began ringing with notifications from LinkedIn, Facebook, and our local neighborhood community boards.

Monica had launched a full-scale public smear campaign.

She had posted an eight-minute tearful video on Facebook and TikTok, filmed in the living room of the Willow Creek house, surrounded by cardboard boxes. Madison was sitting beside her, looking sad and bewildered.

*“I never thought I’d have to make this video,”* Monica wept into the camera, dabbing her mascara-stained cheeks. *“My own sister, Hannah Vance, a wealthy tech executive who makes half a million dollars a year, is evicting my family into the freezing cold in the middle of winter. She has no heart. She’s throwing her own eleven-year-old niece onto the street because she’s bitter, jealous, and cruel. Please share this. People need to know who Hannah Vance really is.”*

The video gained traction instantly. Within twelve hours, it had over forty thousand views and hundreds of shares.

Strangers began flooding my LinkedIn profile with hateful comments:

*“How do you sleep at night evicting children?”*

*“Disgusting greed. Fire Hannah Vance!”*

My mother shared the video on her own Facebook page with the caption: *“A mother’s deepest heartbreak. Pray for my daughter Monica.”*

That evening, Adam and I sat at the kitchen table. He looked furious, his hands clasped tightly together.

“This is defamation, Hannah. She’s targeting your professional reputation. We need to sue her for libel immediately.”

“No,” I said calmly.

I had spent two days in David Miller’s office. I had the Airbnb records. I had the city zoning violation reports (since Dublin, Ohio strictly prohibits unpermitted short-term rentals in residential R-1 zones). I had five years of bank transfers showing Monica receiving thousands of dollars while claiming zero income on tax filings.

“Lawsuits take years, Adam,” I said, looking out the dark window. “The court of public opinion moves in hours. If she wants to fight in public, we will give the public the whole truth.”

At 8:00 PM, I drafted a single, public post on my own Facebook page, linking my LinkedIn profile to ensure complete transparency.

I didn't write an angry rant. I didn't use emotional language. I wrote with the surgical precision of an engineer:

*“In response to the public statements made by my sister, Monica Vance-Holloway, regarding the property at 742 Willow Creek Lane:*

*1. Attached is the certified deed showing full ownership under my trust since 2019.*

*2. Attached is the financial record showing $223,418.00 paid solely by my husband and myself to cover the mortgage, insurance, and taxes over the past five years, during which Monica paid $0.00.*

*3. Attached are photographs taken by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department during a legal inspection on January 20th, documenting an unauthorized, illegal Airbnb operation operated by Monica in the basement.*

*4. Attached are public Airbnb records confirming Monica received over $75,000 in guest payments over three years, completely tax-free, while telling our family she could not afford to feed her child.*

*5. Attached is the Franklin County Municipal Court judgment dismissing her claim of ownership and ordering immediate vacancy by January 31st.*

*I have supported my sister for five years. That support ended when she turned my generosity into fraud and subjected my eleven-year-old daughter to deliberate emotional abuse in our family home. The law has spoken, and the facts speak for themselves.”*

Below the text, I attached a clean, organized PDF carousel of every single receipt, court order, and Airbnb screenshot.

The internet is ruthless, but its favorite target is a fraud exposed in high definition.

Within three hours, the narrative reversed with violent speed.

The comments under Monica’s tearful video turned into an avalanche of outrage:

*“Wait, you were running an illegal Airbnb while living rent-free on your sister’s dime?!”*

*“You made $75k and didn't pay your sister a single cent? You’re a parasite!”*

*“Delete this video, you absolute grifter!”*

By midnight, Monica had deleted her video. By 1:00 AM, she had deleted her TikTok account entirely.

By 2:00 AM, my mother took down her post and went completely dark.

The silence was deafening.
